THQ has released their newest patch for Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts! This new release comes with a whole plethora of changes, tweaks, fixes, improved multiplayer experience and much much more! This v2.301 patch will update your existing v2.300 and is for the English installation.

The Online change:

  • Resolved a game arbitration issue when the game resulted in a sync error

Some of the fixes include:

  • Fixed World Builder to export correctly. All custom maps should now save correctly. Be sure to re-save your custom maps to carry over these properties.
  • Updated save game version. Save games previous to 2.300 will not be compatible with the current version of Company of Heroes.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed the player to teleport garrisoned troops.
  • -dev mode has been re-enabled.

Some of the map changes include:

  • Several map weather settings have been tuned.
  • The Scheldt - Two bridges to centre island replaced with land bridges.
  • Hochwald Gap - Tweaked territory near bridge crossings, widened bridge crossings from each base, removed a large number of fx markers.
  • Minor pathing changes to Linden to enable Kettens to capture a point.
  • Verriers Ridge - added version of map with no repairable bunkers (playable with Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts).
  • And more!

Some of the gameplay fixes include:

  • British Bren carriers and Bren gunners will no longer be able to button Flakvierlings, 88s, AT guns, Howitzers.
  • Strafing run has been tuned.
  • US M8 Greyhound and Wehrmacht SdKfz 234 Armoured cars have had their target accuracy modifiers reduced from 0.73 and 0.82 respectively to .9.
  • US M8 Greyhound and SdKfz 234 Armoured Cars moving accuracy modifiers changed from 0.6 to 0.8.
  • Light vehicle received accuracy modifier on light engine damage critical changed from 1.25 to 1.35.

In this tutorial we'll go through the steps of adding your custom template images to World Builder. These template images can be used for creating a map layout based on real locations. You could also draw fictional designs in Photoshop. It's all up to you!
For example Relic mappers use template images for map layout designs. Take a look at the Official CoH2 World Builder trailer to exactly get what this tutorial is all about.

Rule #1:

Do not keep World Builder open while doing the steps in this tutorial unless told to.
Rule #2: No other rules.
Required tools:
  • Basic text editor. Microsoft Notepad is great for this. More suitable tool would be notepad++, which you can download from notepad-plus-plus.org
  • Adobe Photoshop with DDS plugin

We'll start by setting up a folder system to hold the templates and by downloading a set of example files to test it.
  • Create this folder structure to your CoH2 Installation folder:

  • Launch World Builder. You should now be able to access the new splat in Splat placement tool:

    Place the splat called 'lyon' to the map. You will notice the small size of the new splat immediately. To make it larger, set scale to 128 or something similar and place the splat again.

Now, when your image is successfully exported as .dds, we'll create a .terrainmaterial file to describe the properties of the new splat. You can do that by doing the following steps:
  • Open Notepad/Notepad++ and paste in following content:

  • Change yourTemplateName to match your .dds file name.
  • Save this text as yourTemplateName.terrainmaterial to the same folder where your .dds image is. Close the file.
  • Launch World Builder. You should now be able to access your new custom template.
